Titanic - Ship of Dreams

The Titanic was known as the Ship pf Dreams.

The Titanic was the second of three vessels in the Olympic class of liners built in Belfast at the Harland and Wolff shipyards: Olympic 1911 - 1935. , Titanic 1912 - 1912 and Britannic 1914 - 1916. They were ordered by the American White Star line for use as a luxury shuttle service across the North Atlantic, specifically intended to compete with Cunard's Mauretania and Lusitania. The Titanic, when launched on May 31st 1911, was the biggest and most luxurious liner in the world and became known as the 'Ship of Dreams'.

With Captain E.J. Smith in command Titanic began her maiden voyage from Southampton at noon on April the 10th, 1912 but at 11:40pm on the 14th hit an iceberg that caused it to sink with the loss of over 1,500 lives.
